Use かどうか to embed a yes/no question inside a larger sentence. It means whether or not.
It is common with verbs about knowing, checking, deciding, or understanding, such as 分かる(わかる), 知っている(しっている), 決める(きめる), and 確認する(かくにんする).
Attach it to plain forms:
• Verb: 行くかどうか(いくかどうか) = whether someone will go
• い-adjective: 高いかどうか(たかいかどうか) = whether it is expensive
• な-adjective: 静かかどうか(しずかかどうか) = whether it is quiet
• Noun: 学生かどうか(がくせいかどうか) = whether someone is a student
For な-adjectives and nouns, do not use だ before かどうか. Say 静かかどうか, not 静かだかどうか.
Important: Use かどうか only for questions that can be answered yes or no.
For questions with who, when, where, what, and similar question words, use plain か instead: 誰が来るか(だれがくるか), いつ行くか(いついくか).
